For our October ASHRAE meeting our guest speaker will be Peter Rumsey, PE will share his experiences on designing super efficient and decarbonized facilities around the world. He will discuss the key elements of building decarbonization and share some of his 40 years in the field. His experience spans that gamut of commercial and industrial buildings including office buildings, data centers, labs and cleanrooms. He will challenge the notion that improved building performance is complicated and expensive.
Peter Rumsey, PE, CEM, Fellow ASHRAE Bio:
Peter is a global leader and innovator in the building decarbonization
field. In his over 40 year career in the buildings and energy field he designed 60 LEED Platinum buildings, more than any engineer in the US. He designed the world’s first net zero commercial office, first net zero public museum and first net zero research laboratory. He was the thought leader behind Infosys’ breakthrough and world’s first corporate energy initiative to lower energy consumption of its 40 million sf real estate portfolio by more than 50%.
He is a serial entrepreneur, founder of Decarbonization Strategies and founder of the Stanford Building Decarbonization Learning Accelerator (BDLA.stanford.edu). In addition to his consulting work, Peter has been an adjunct lecturer at Stanford University for over 15 years where he teaches a graduate course on building decarbonization. His recent research focuses on the intersection of AI and building energy efficiency. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley in mechanical engineering and an ASHRAE Fellow. He received ASHRAE's highest technical award, the Engineering Award of Excellence.
